- rain jacket

- portfolio to keep things in (I can make one though, but still)
- binders
- cell phone charger
- pair of large socks to use as slippers
- sent five books home instead of here, so I don't have any current books for Other Romanticisms

some movies
I omitted socializings that involved movies before. here they are.
- When I got home my parents and I watched Austin Powers
- The day after New Years, when we had the brunch, I went with Mama, Inka and Dima to see The Artist in West Newton Cinema. I really liked it, I feel like it's hard to pull off a good not-sad movie, and The Artist did.
- Max came over and we watched City of God. So intense, also had to download it twice because the first time I got it without subtitles.
- Watched Manhattan in two parts with Yosef
- And this is sad but I watched Smerfs, half asleep, on New Years
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in the Boston Lowes theater with Abhishek. We also went to get iced drink and went to a bookstore where we found an incredibly old book (shown)
- Sherlock Holmes 2009 when Sanya was visiting. Which...I liked the characters and the shots, but I guess I didn't like the script or the plot much.
- In The Bedroom (which has nothing to do with sex or anything) because a bunch of Sundance Film Festival movies were up on hulu. Also intense.
- Watched The Ice Storm with my parents.
- Mostly Martha with my mom
- Hugo with Yosef and two of his friends, on my last day home, in 3D. We went to get chips at the closest grocery store too, because I didn't feel like letting them spend absurd amounts of money on popcorn. It was nice and we barely missed anything even though we came 15 minutes late.
edit:
one more, it was pretty bad, but I hung out with Max M. and we watched The Girl in the Cafe
I kept waiting for something not-obvious to happen and it never did. the whole drive of it was the awkwardness of the characters.

some socializings
in no particular order, these events occurred over this break
1) the monday after newyears we had a shitton of people over for brunch. It was fun but exhausting (to the point that I fell asleep after everyone left). Since most places (if not all) where closed the day before, we had to go get food that morning. Plus there were six people on my side of the room at all times (I'm sharing with Sima.) Laying in my bed, lying under my bed trying to get the kitten out, standing around. Not Yosef's room. Not the entire room. My side of the room. I made 31 eggs worth of omelet. 'nuff said.
2) Went skiing at Sunday River. Left on the 23rd, skied 24-27th, left 27th. Interesting thing about skiing on Christmas Eve and Day; there are barely any lines. There is barely any English. There is a lot of Russian and Chinese and a bit of Hebrew. (notice this every year)

As soon as Christmas was over however, there were as many English-speakers in one line as there had been on the entire mountain the day before.
3) Met up with Max T yesterday at Central Sq, got some of my art supplies for drawing next semester, drank 'Aztec cocoa' at Clear Conscience Cafe (yeah, that exists)
4) and with Kristen the day before in Newton Centre, ate at Johnny's Luncheonette.
5) and at some point Karen came over to my house and we made gingerbread cookies, but hen it turned out that they have to be frozen so she didn't get any, which I still feel bad about. Half the batter is still in the fridge, but it's unlikely we can meet up again because of her class/work schedule.
6) and Sabina came over yesterday as well, and she dropped me off at the train station.
7) and the Innka and co. came over at some point too.
8) and I met up with Yulka on the 17th. I know this because she was going to come over the day before (late at night) but couldn't because it snowed, and I was afraid we wouldn't be able to say goodbye. But we did, at Black Bean on Park St.
9) I also hung out with Kostya before he left for McGill, first in Brooklyn where we had shitty "Vietnamese" food, and then went to Central Sq and then to his (mom's) house, which is when Valya and Chris Yulka at Sweet Tart in Newton Centre.
10) and before that I met with the same three people at, once again, Black Seed on Park St. Valya was going to go skiing, but then the Zamboni machine broke so Chris walked around carrying their ice skates. Yulka got out early from her jury duty because she was leaving for Amsterdam, and both the current cases required her to come up another day.
11) also came by Yulka's house a couple of times, or more.

SOPA/PIPA opposition
wiki, if you look up anything other than
SOPA and PIPA
comics: questionablecontent, girlswithslignshots , asofterworld just has everything crossed out, explosm, theoatmeal xkcd and a bunch of others, I'm assuming (have to admit I don't actually know some of these, just looked them up on a functioning Google)
Tumblr is giving the option of blocking out your thread
Google's icon today is censored
Reddit
Postsecret
and here is a list of other companies, over 1000 of them, against it, including
aol, ebay, facebook, twitter, firefox, linkedin, zynga
(pretty google picture here)
Here is a list of supporters (including CVS, Marmot, Nike, Studio 404, Viacom and Walmart)
Viacom even made a video but I think it's worth reading this for a more rounded view?
The dispute isn't about weather or not piracy is bad, it's about how to go about fighting it without giving too much power to one sector (media companies) over the internet.
"It should be noted that full episodes of VH1′s amazing lineup of reality programs are available at the VH1 website, but you wouldn’t know that if you visited Viacom. If you want to actually combat episodic piracy, why not go out of your way to promote the fact these very same episodes are available for free on the website of a property you own instead of making videos that further turn public opinion against you?"
and for a general rundown of some of the implications for one guy who has a company on the internet
for those of you still confused

Poppy Seed Lemon Cake
![]() |
| The poppy seeds retain their crunch even after being soaked for a while, and it makes the cake less dry than the original recipe (which is otherwise great, as I know from when Carolyn and other guests came over last Friday and she brought one over.) |

Wisdom Teeth
I'm running on:
ibuprofen
vicodin (dr. house pain killer)
amoxacillin (antibiotic)
special mouthwash (antiseptic)
smoothies (ice cream, yogurt, milk, berries, yum) plus two eggs
methylprednisolone (steroids)
got them yanked out yesterday, the appointment was made the day before. Started feeling better after the Novocain wore off and I could control my mouth. Even better this morning after the sedative wore off.
Woke up twice at night from the pain (thankfully the pills where next to my bed.) But I feel better now, except that it's hard to talk/open my mouth in any way. But at least I have my brain back, damn sedatives.
granted, the vicodin makes me a bit drowsy too.
my parents are very good care-givers.
My brother got me mike and ikes that he put on my bed before I left on Saturday morning, but I can't even suck on them, looking forward to be able to eat them!
Thankfully though, the guy who actually took out my teeth (Dr. Simon Bernstein) was a lot more confident in my mouth than the first guy we went to. Only one of my teeth was close enough to a nerve to cause any worry, and most likely that would be numbing for about three days, but even that didn't happen. Another one of my teeth was already ramming into the molar next to it (which explains why I would periodically get shots of pain while chewing on my left side.)
