recent rain

I had a dream in which I found out I had an infant child. I thought "shit, how did I forget I had a kid? when was I pregnant? and how the hell am I supposed to take care of him with my current schedule?"
I woke up and was relieved, only to find out that I really did have a kid, just learning to hold his head.
When I finally really did wake up, I double guessed myself, touched my stomach to see if it felt like I had recently been pregnant.

My schedule really is strange: I work every other weekend, and my workday is either 7-3:30 or 3-11:30, depending on the shift. I've been tired a lot but hopefully once I adjust to the demands I will no longer come home and fall flat on my face. This job is exactly what I was looking for, out of the jobs available for my level of education and clinical aspirations. But it requires interacting with new people everyday, running around, being 'on' the entire time, and I've never been good at that.

The rest of my family is in Vegas until the 29th, so I have Potemkin for company. He's currently purring next to me in hopes of receiving some affection. Recent rain is dripping from the gutters.

hot peanuts cold beer

In NYC for labor day weekend, I arrived at Luisa's and Sasha's apartment a little before midnight. I had the pleasure of meetings Sasha's ginger kitten Filibuster, and in the morning we made pancakes (with Sasha, not with Filibuster). Sasha and I went to meet Hannah and Will, we walked the highline and hung out in a posh village apartment where Will was temporarily staying.

I met up with Bianca the next morning: she's leaving for graduate school in London soon. She told me about Central Park's designer and commented on how weird some the new architecture coming up is. In the afternoon I traveled down from midtown to Brooklyn to meet Shinno. We walked around and right as it started raining, we were inside eating ramen (for the first time, for me). When it stopped we walked and walked until we stopped at Skinny Denis, where an all female modern mariachi band was playing, and in hand-lettering, it said "hot peanuts cold beer" across the entrance window. Alligator lounge later, where each drink came with a complimentary personal pizza, and we were joined by Shinno's friends who'd I'd never met but they seemed familiar anyway.

Monday was another parting with Hannah and Will, the heat had gotten to us and as we ate froyo a crime scene was being set up across the street.

I've shot three rolls and have only scanned the second one I shot.

they landed!

Yesterday a little before midnight I got in the car and drove to the airport. I passed a car in flames, smoke billowing mercilessly, a figure a few yards in front silhouetted by the street light.

Papa and Yosef seemed quite cheerful when I picked them up, despite the fact that one of their suitcases had been taken. I can only imagine the surprise of the person who took it when they get home: opening it up only to find it filled with ice picks and other mountaineering gear. (we got it back today though so it's okay).

buy sugar

The morning that I left for Bard, Mama told me that I look like an Urban Outfitters model. Sima asked me what I was going to do after college and Потемкин tried to get attention but a belly rub was an unrealistic dream. Yosef promised to try to call me more, as he does every year (and we did talk for almost an hour last night). I got salt&vinegar chips at the rest stop and Papa got tea.
the kitchen in this house is quite nice. we don't really socialize & we have a similar level of expected cleanliness.
functional.
the fact that I do not have any sugar, however, is not.

Rosh Hashanah is always a bit lukewarm at Bard (the undercooked tilapia, the doughy challah, the one bottle of saccharine Manischewitz for each table of ten) but Le'shana Tova. Yesterday I joined the tennis team, though I can only make it to 3/5 practices a week and have to miss some of the meets.

белая кошка

English varient below the photos

9 Came by Lena’s apartment to pick up her keys; she was leaving for India, and my relatives were soon to return from their vacation in Spain, so I needed to move. After that I went to meet up with Andrey, who I (also) had not seen in four years. We were going to go for a walk, but since I had screwed up my leg, and he had fucked up his, we were left to hobble to a café. There was a white cat there, which quickly put me to use petting her. After a while I grew tired of her and put her on the ground. She went walked around, for the thousandth time, her limited world, and returned to me, sitting down on my lap without a thought. After that we moved to PirO.G.I, where there more people and more smoke. Dasha, who had an exam the next day, joined us, along with her boyfriend Sasha. After they left, Anton, Andrey’s friend who’s majoring in Asian Studies (as is Natasha) joined us. Anton asked Andrey if he was coming to his concert on Friday, and invited me as well.
10 To the left of the main building of the Pushkin Museum of Fine arts, there is a smaller gallery of art of the countries of Europe and Americas, where I went that morning. I was probably in the right mood for this; Cézanne, Van Gogh. I didn’t used to understand them. There was a painting that I had seen many times, but this time in person. In the evening I joined Dasha and Sasha for dinner, and soon so did Sergie, Dasha’s friend. We ate, drank, and sang songs. No, no, that’s not true; we ate pizza, and we probably were not allowed to sing, nor did we have the inclination. Dasha and I tried to speak to each other without words, but it didn’t really work so instead we kept internal dialogues. It happens. Once we were walking outside, we saw a playground. It was hard to play on it, we aren’t exactly the right parameters anymore, but it was still fun to climb the wooden tower and run across the snowy bridge, hung a couple feet from the ground. We kept going, and saw the restaurant Pushkin*. It came to mind, possibly Sergie’s, to go there – so we did. They called us sir and madam*, and brought Dasha a little stool for her handbag. We got the menus and after looking at them, asked for the dessert menus. I ordered tea and cloudberry jam. The bathrooms were impressive; the toilets and sinks were made of Dutch-style porcelain. Wonder (Horror).

*a place that basically exists to, on one hand, be historic; it is named after the founder of Russian literature, but mostly to be incredibly posh.
*but an archaic form; the historic factor kicking in. Like “What would thee like as an appetizer, Sir”

Kitten

We got a kitten on the 30th! He was really scared the first day, and the first night I got scratched after I woke up at 5am to his mewing. I looked all over until I found him on the windowsill, 5 feet off the ground and very frightened . But now his mewing tends to mean 'come play with me' or 'rub my tummy' though he does try to get you to come play with him under the bed, because he still prefers hiding.
